An Arterial Blood Gas analysis or an ABG test is best defined as a medical procedure used to measure the amounts of arterial gases, such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, with the main purpose of determining the acid-base balance in an individual patient’s blood, especially to diagnose the health and workings of one’s lungs.

An ABG is performed by analysing a small blood sample of the concerned individual, collected ideally from an artery in order to determine the aforementioned balance and ensure proper workings of lungs.
